What is Knitcrate all about? June 2019

Hey guys!

Have you tried Knitcrate before? It’s getting more and more popular, especially since they were recently published on Buzzfeed as one of the “Top 24 Subscription Boxes You’ll Never Ever Want to Cancel”.. I mean, that’s pretty amazing, right?! I’m gonna be honest, getting my surprise crate is one of my favourite times of the month! If you don’t know what it’s all about, it’s basically a monthly yarn subscription that comes with artisan yarn and an accompanying knit and crochet pattern booklet! Each month you get a bonus item too – like a cute notions pouch, pins, or other maker-related bonus items. This month, it’s a free retractable measuring tape. I’m actually pretty pumped for that, because I don’t have a retractable one yet!

What I love most about this subscription is that each month, your colourway is a surprise. This means that I’m exposed to yarns I wouldn’t normally work with, and colours I wouldn’t normally choose! It’s been the best experience because I have learned about new fibers and also have discovered that there are a lot of colours I love to crochet with that I haven’t purchased in the past!

See the photo below for some of my recent Knitcrate acquisitions! These are the types of yarn you’ll get each month. They are all super pretty colours made with high quality fibers like merino wool and cashmere! They’re always different, either speckled, solids, variegated, all types!

You can pick from 2 types of membership crates:
1. Knitcrate Membership
2. Sock Crate Membership

The Knitcrate Membership Crate

It’s $24.99/month, and ships for free! No other fees to worry about. I don’t know about you, but I really hate paying for shipping and feeling like I’m throwing money away! Each crate comes with 1 or 2 (usually 2) skeins of premium yarn. Some months, the yarn is the in-house brand and other months, the yarn is hand dyed by independent designers in limited edition colourways that are exclusively dyed for Knitcrate! There is an accompanying pattern booklet that explains the background behind the yarn, and also includes a knit and crochet pattern. These patterns are designed by independent designers and these designs are exclusive to Knitcrate! Every month, there is a sneak peek before the colourways are revealed and they show you what the colourway inspiration was. I love seeing these because they always get me so excited to see what the colour looks like! There is a new box every month, and as long as you purchase before the month is over, you can still get that same month’s crate. For example, if you purchase on June 29th, you will receive June’s crate.

The Sock Crate Membership Crate

The sock crate membership is similar, but costs only $19.95/month. You will receive 1 skein of hand-dyed premium sock yarn in a limited edition colourway and a knit AND crochet sock pattern included! I’m not quite advanced enough for sock patterns, so I currently subscribe to the regular Knitcrate Membership Crate! I kind of wish I was subscribed to both though, because the sock yarn is always so stinkin’ pretty.

June Crate

Each month, Knitcrate creates an inspiration board or mood board for the yarn dyers to refer to when they dye their pretty yarn. This month, Knitcrate shared their inspo board and I can’t wait for you to see it! (See image below) June’s inspiration is called “Calico Quilt”. The membership crate contains a lavender yarn (called “Wee Violets”)  and a bright peachy-orange yarn (called “Tiger Lily”)! This means, you will get one of these colourways in your crate, but it’s a surprise! The patterns are a knit shawl or a crochet wrap. They’re both super cute. The sock crate is the most gorgeous light blue, with speckles of darker blue throughout. I think this sock crate is sold out for June, but you can be added to a waitlist if you’d like!

Ok, now for the fun part! This is the crate I got:

If you’re interested in trying this out for yourself (which I highly recommend!), you can click here and use the code “knitsnknots20” for 20% off your first month’s crate! So basically, you’re getting 2 skeins that are a $60USD+ value for super cheap! The skeins include their regular price printed on the label, and it’s crazy to think of how much money you save by getting the membership. And just so you know, I would never promote a company I don’t truly love. I personally love receiving Knitcrate and honestly believe it’s worth every penny.

Anyways, can’t wait to see what colourway you get!

Happy making xo
