About

The Penrose Pointed Cowl is crocheted in a wavy stitch pattern with four different colorways arranged in a gradient; lightest to darkest from top to bottom. The standout feature is the point at the bottom which allows the cowl to be tucked into a jacket to keep you warm and help block the wind.

Materials

Yarn: Worsted—Lion Brand Basic Stitch Skein Tones in 4 colorways: Hazelnut, Mahogany, Cocoa, Ebony

  • 100% acrylic
  • 185 yds (170 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g) skein
  • Find this yarn on lionbrand.com or visit yarnsub.com to find comparable substitutes.

Yardage Required:

1 skein Color A (Hazelnut) or 90 yds (82 m)

1 skein Color B (Mahogany) or 90 yds (82 m)

1 skein Color C (Cocoa) or 90 yds (82 m)

1 skein Color D (Ebony) or 115 yds (105 m)

If you choose to use a solid color, you will need 3 skeins or 385 yds (352 m) total.

Pattern Notes

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each row/rnd. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous row/rnd.

Reversible: There is no right side or wrong side; both sides are identical. Whichever side you choose to wear as the “right side” is your preference.

Turning Chain: The turning chain does not count as a stitch.

Right-handed vs Left-handed Crocheters: The pattern is written with right-handed crocheters in mind (those who hold their hook in their right hand and crochet each row toward the left). If you are a left-handed crocheter, any instructions referring to the “right-hand side” or “left-hand side” should be reversed.

Construction: This cowl is worked from the top-down, beginning with Color A and finishing with Color D.
