About

The Chasing Waves Tank is a breezy, beach-ready companion to the original Chasing Summer Tank. Featuring airy vertical eyelet stitching, this version offers an even lighter, more open fabric that’s perfect for hot days, seaside strolls, or layering over swimwear. With built-in bust shaping, an adjustable neckline seam, step-by-step tutorial photos, and plenty of modification options sprinkled throughout, this pattern is designed to help create your perfect fit.

Materials

Yarn: DK—Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton DK in Cream

  • 100% Cotton
  • 273 yds (250 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g) skein
  • Find this yarn on lionbrand.com or visit yarnsub.com to find comparable substitutes

Yardage: 2 (2, 2, 2, 2) (3, 3, 3, 4) skeins, or

250 (275, 300, 325, 400) (475, 525, 650, 700) yds

229 (252, 374, 297, 366) (434, 480, 594, 640) m

Yarn Substitution: Substitute Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton DK with any similar DK-weight (category #3) yarn that matches gauge. Most fibers should work fine in this project, particularly plant fibers like cotton, bamboo or any plant fiber blends.

Hook: Size U.S. E/4 (3.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors, 5 locking stitch markers, several more stitch markers to help with seaming

Gauge

4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) = 22 dc and 9 rows

Block your swatch the same way you would your finished garment.

Pattern Notes

Skill Level: Intermediate

Sizing: This tank top is written in nine sizes as follows: XS (S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X). Make sure to follow the numbers for your size only.

Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each row/round. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous row/round. If only one number is provided, it applies to all sizes.

Right Side/Wrong Side: While each individual panel is reversible, there is a right side (RS) and wrong side (WS) to this top once it is seamed together since the finishing details (straps and borders) are worked on the RS. You will be instructed to designate a RS in the pattern.

Turning Chain: The turning chain counts as a stitch for most of this pattern. Each beginning ch-3 counts as 1 dc and each beginning ch-4 counts as (1 dc + 1 ch). The beginning ch-1 for the single crochet rows when completing the straps does not count as a stitch.

Construction: The front of this top is worked in two identical pieces that get seamed together along the center-front. After seaming these pieces together, the back panel is worked directly onto your front piece, including the back-shaping onto which your straps will attach. The straps are worked last.
