 About

The Acreage Cardigan was designed to bring some cottage charm to your everyday wardrobe. Alternating rows of delicate eyelets and solid stitches create a light, breathable fabric, while the thoughtful short-row shaping at the back-neck ensures a tailored, elevated fit. It’s perfectly suited to the office, coffee dates, or lounging at home.

Materials

Yarn Used: worsted—Lion Brand Made With Love The Cottony One in colorway “Sage”

• 60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic
• 185 yds (169 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g) skein
• Find this yarn on lionbrand.com or visit yarnsub.com to find comparable substitutes available in your region.

Yardage Required:

9 sizes, written in the following format:

XS (S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X)

• 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) (10, 10, 11, 11) skeins
• 1275 (1325, 1375, 1550, 1600) (1700, 1750, 1875, 2025) yds
• 1166 (1212, 1257, 1417, 1463) (1554, 1600, 1714, 1852) m

Yarn Substitution: Substitute Made With Love The Cottony One with any similar medium, category 4, worsted weight yarn that matches gauge. For a similar look and feel, choose a yarn with properties closest to the one used here. Always swatch before beginning to ensure you are happy with the resulting fabric. Note that the eyelets allow for airflow, so the partial acrylic content won’t cause you to overheat.

  • Scroll down for the full yarn sub list we compiled during testing!

Hook: Size U.S. 7 (4.5mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors, 5 buttons each measuring 20 mm (0.75”/2 cm) in diameter, or as many buttons as desired (any size will work), 5 removable/locking stitch markers – or as many markers as you will have buttons (2 of these markers are used temporarily during shoulder shaping), sewing needle, small amount of thread in your desired colorway for sewing buttons to your cardigan

Gauge

4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) = approximately 16 sts and 11 rows in main stitch pattern, blocked.

For Swatch:

Pattern Notes

Skill Level: Intermediate

Sizing: This sweater is written in nine sizes as follows: XS (S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X). Make sure to follow the numbers for your size only. View full sizing chart below.

Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each row/round in italics. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous row/round. If only one number is provided, it applies to all sizes.

  • An “x” as a stitch count placeholder indicates that particular line of instruction does not apply to your size.

Turning Chain: The turning chain does not count as a stitch.

Right Side/Wrong Side: There is a right side (RS) and wrong side (WS) to this cardigan. The RS faces you as you crochet each eyelet row, and the WS faces you as you crochet each hdc row.

Construction: The back panel of this cardigan is worked from the bottom up with some short-row shaping (it’s easy, don’t worry!) to help create a shoulder slope. Next, each of the front panels is worked directly onto the sloped shoulders of the back panel and worked from the top down. The sides of these body panels are partially seamed together, leaving space for the sleeves. Lastly, the sleeves are worked directly onto these openings in joined, turned rounds. The buttonband is worked last with instructions on how to adapt the buttonholes to suit any button size.
