Granny Cluster Triangle Scarf – Crochet Triangle Scarf Triangle Shawl with Tassels

Hey guys,

Today I’m sharing a simple, classic design with you – the Granny Cluster Triangle Scarf. Click here to go straight to the pattern or continue reading for more info + a pattern coupon code!

About

When I first learned to crochet, one of the first skills I tried to learn was how to make a granny square. When someone asks me for beginner-crochet-tips, I always say to start with basic shapes. Learn to crochet a flat circle, a tube, a triangle, a rectangle, and once you’ve learned how to manipulate your stitches into different shapes and see what different increases and decreases do to your fabric, you can make anything!

About the granny square triangle – I found it difficult in the beginning, and I was confused at how to start. Once I finally got it right, I knew I needed to add this into my pattern collection because knowing how to crochet a triangle granny square is such a crochet basic! This pattern is perfect for a beginner crocheter who is familiar with reading patterns.

Construction

This pattern is written for one size, but you can repeat the final row as many times as you like for any size of scarf. I added 2 tassels in one of my samples, and 3 tassels in the other, but of course you could omit them, or add as many as you like. You could even add fringe instead to each stitch of your last row. Play around with different colours, stripes, two-tone, tri-tone, whatever! There are endless ways you can make this scarf your own.

If you’ve never made a triangle scarf before, it starts in the very center of the scarf along the top, longest edge. You begin with a teeny tiny triangle and keep adding rows to increase the size. It uses only double crochets and chains to give this look! Easy peasy!

Yarn:

I used Lion Brand Touch of Alpaca for this project. I chose the colour Oxford Grey, and used exactly 1 bonus bundle for the entire project, including tassels. You can click here for the link to the bonus bundles! Keep in mind if you’d like a larger scarf, you will need more than 1 skein.

Touch of Alpaca is 10% alpaca, 90% acrylic, so you can imagine how soft it is! I’ve used alpaca yarn a couple times, and I love the uniqueness of this fiber. It’s very light and airy, perfect for a light scarf with some open stitch-work like this one. Once you’re done with your project, you can throw it in the washing machine. Bonus: it’s hypoallergenic.
