About

The inspiration for this pattern: butterflies are believed to symbolize that positive change is on the horizon and should be welcomed. The butterfly border along this top is worked as a symbol of luck to carry with you.

Wings of a Butterfly is a V-neck tank top worked from the bottom-up. A butterfly motif is worked first, which becomes the bottom border. The rest of the top consists of Half Double Crochet, with very simple decreasing to create the shaping for the V-neck.

This top is reversible, which is one of my favourite things about it! One side has a V-neck; the other has a high neck. You can work 2 identical panels, or one of each. Both of these panels can be worn either in the front or the back – totally your call! I like to wear the V-neck in the back as shown below.

Construction

This top has a really simple construction. First, the butterfly motif is worked, using just Double Crochets, Half-Double Crochets, and Chains. Next, the body of the top is worked, and then very simple decreasing is worked to create this stunning neckline. The straps can be worked to your exact length requirements. Create one of each panel, or create 2 identical panels – whatever you prefer! Make yours long or cropped – whatever you like. I prefer mine to be a bit shorter to wear with high-waisted skirts and pants.

Yarn

Wings of a Butterfly uses CotLin yarn (70% Tanguis Cotton; 30% Linen) from WeCrochet in the colourway Copper; Alternate colourway: Swan.

CotLin is a DK weight cotton-linen blend. It comes in cute little 50g skeins that each have 123yds.

You will need 3 (4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9) skeins of CotLin to make this top for sizes XS (S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X) and a US F/5 (3.75mm) crochet hook.

(This seems like a lot of skeins, but each skein is only $4.99!) You can also get free shipping over $35 in the US, and over $75 to Canada.

Pick up the yarn here.

    Hello!
Do you have a size chart with the sizing that you use? Wanting to make this but I don’t know what size I should make with nothing to compare measurements to. Thank you!

Hello! I size all of my pieces based on the craft yarn council sizes. Whichever bust measurement you fall under, make this corresponding size for all of my garments! πŸ™‚
