About

This pattern uses a really soft yarn from Lion Brand called A Star Is Born: Naptime – a 100% polyester yarn. This is the type of yarn that feels like chenille and you just want to keep touching!

I wanted to make a baby blanket with this yarn and include some really fun textural elements. I incorporated some shapes at the end of the pattern that are applied last. These shapes are made by working with 4 strands at once to create really thick, raised shapes, while the rest of the blanket is worked single-stranded. The stitch pattern is my favourite stitch: the Griddle Stitch, also used in my Rosebud Raglan, my Rosebud Poncho, the Chainette Turtleneck, my Traveling Afghan Square, the Lancaster Purse. This blanket is super fun to work up and any little bebe will love putting their hands all over the interesting raised textures!

My inspiration for this blanket was a 90s-retro-style blanket with different coloured geometric shapes all over a single-coloured background with a border. My sketch and my final blanket are actually quite similar and this design was so fun to work up. I actually think that the finished piece looks even better than my sketch. Here is my initial sketch:

Yarn

The yarn used in this blanket is called “A Star is Born: Naptime” by Lion Brand.

It feels like chenille; really buttery soft and really velvet-y.

I used under 8 skeins of yarn for this project. You can make this entire blanket for under $40!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White: 5 skeins
  • Navy: 1 skein
  • Pink: 1 skein
  • Pale Aqua: 1 skein

Choose your colours + pick up your yarn here.

To personalize this blanket, you can use any colour as the main colour, and use as many or as few contrasting colours as you like. I opted for just 3 contrasting: Navy, Pink, and Pale Aqua. I chose to use Navy as the border, too. You can easily make this blanket your own by choosing which colours speak to you! (There’s also a silver and a lilac colour in this yarn line!)

I hope you love your Whatever Blanket! Pick up your yarn here – 5 balls main colour; and 3 contrasting colours (1 ball each)!
