About

Designed to become an heirloom piece that you can pass down for generations, this vintage-inspired blanket will draw the eye in any room. Each row is the same, making this classic blanket the perfect project for distracted stitching.

Did you know that this was my first-ever blanket pattern? It was originally designed in 2019, and later updated in 2025. Here’s what I had to say about it back then: I’ve wanted to create a blanket pattern for so long, and I’m really happy with the way it turned out. I was going for a simple pattern resembling those classic, vintage blankets that you see in movies, draped over the back of the living room couches – you know the ones! That is partly why I chose an avocado green and a light beige – to reflect those vintage colours. And you can’t go wrong with a classic chevron pattern – it looks great every time and this blanket will draw the eye in any room.

I chose a simple stitch for this project: the double crochet stitch. This is one of my favourite stitches to use, especially because the projects work up so quickly thanks to the height of a double crochet. I worked this blanket up in only 4 days of working on and off – blankets don’t always have to be forever projects! I’ll also show you how to change colours seamlessly when you’re changing from colour A to colour B. You could of course make the stripes any size you want, as long as you have the same final row count, since every row is the exact same for row 2 and beyond. It’s a great project to work on while you’re watching TV because you don’t have to pay attention too much to your stitch count since every row is the same.

The only skills you will need for this project: double crochet, multiple double crochets in the same stitch, skipping stitches, chaining. It’s really that simple!

More About the Yarn

This pattern uses category #4, worsted weight yarn, and I chose Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice for this project. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: This is one of my all-time favourite acrylics to work with. They’ve got the best colour options, with really on-trend shades. It’s such an inexpensive yarn that feels high-quality. You’ll need 7 skeins of colour A (dusty green) and 4 skeins of colour B (linen) if you want to create a blanket like the one pictured.

I chose acrylic because I wanted my blanket to get a lot of use. I know it’ll get thrown in the wash over and over again and I wanted something that would stand up to the test of time. (2025 Janine here – I have washed this blanket dozens of times and it still looks great!) I didn’t want to use any yarn too fancy because I didn’t want to worry if it got spilled on or thrown in the dryer. This is my choice, so of course you could choose anything you like! I’m just prone to wine-spilling, so this was the smart choice for me! Vanna’s Choice is machine-washable and very durable.

Customization Tip: If you’d prefer, ignore the striping pattern and simply use scrap yarn for a stash-buster pattern! If you try this before I get around to it, make sure you tag me in the pics so I can see!

Finished Measurements

The finished blanket measures approximately 48” (122 cm) wide and 66” (168 cm) long, blocked.

Terms + Abbreviations Used

Written in U.S. Crochet Terms

  • ch(s): chain(s)
  • dc: double crochet
  • dc3tog: double crochet 3 stitches together
  • rep: repeat
  • st(s): stitch(es)

Gauge

4 x 4 ” (10 x 10 cm) = the horizontal distance between each peak and valley, and 4.25 rows when measuring vertically, measured in chevron stitch

See full stitch chart on page 4. Note that this stitch chart perfectly matches the following gauge swatch instructions.

For Swatch:

Ch 59.

Work first 8 rows of pattern (instructions on next page). [56 sts]

Block and dry your swatch the same way you would your finished blanket. Measure across the innermost 4” (10 cm) of your swatch (not the edge stitches) to get the most accurate measurement.

Pattern Notes

Skill Level: Easy

Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each row.

Reversible: There is no right side or wrong side to this fabric.

Turning Chain: The turning chain (ch-3) counts as the first double crochet of each row.

Construction: This blanket is worked widthwise until achieving your desired length.

Changing Colors: When changing colors, work the last stitch of the row with the old color, but do not work the final yarn-over to close the stitch. Work this yarn-over with the new color. Then cut the old color, leaving a tail long enough for you to weave in later, and continue crocheting in your new color.

Stripes: There are 7 stripes using Color A and 6 stripes using Color B.

Pattern Multiple: The pattern multiple for this blanket is 28+3. Adjust the width of your blanket by adding or subtracting 28 stitches to the beginning chain count.
