Sugar Valley Wrap – Crochet Pattern for Intarsia, Trapezoidal Shawl Made of Triangles

Hi everyone!

Today I’m sharing a brand new crochet pattern called the Sugar Valley Wrap that is made with my very own hand-dyed yarn (although you may use any fingering weight yarn that you like)!

Before we begin, here are some quick links for you:

About

The Sugar Valley Wrap is a trapezoidal shawl comprised of dozens of multi-coloured triangles crocheted using the intarsia colourwork method.

Crocheted in just the double crochet stitch, this beginner-friendly wrap is the perfect project for distracted crocheting. This pattern is easy to customize in terms of size, and additional sections of triangles can be added for a larger shawl, if desired.

The Sugar Valley Wrap is crocheted with my own Knits ‘N Knots Fingering yarn from my BLOOM Collection, featuring 10 colorways of hand-dyed yarn and 3 accompanying patterns.

You can shop this yarn here!

Pattern Notes

Skill Level: Easy

Turning Chain: Begin each row with a ch 2 (does not count as a stitch).

Stitch Pattern: This wrap is worked entirely in the double crochet stitch.

Intarsia: This pattern uses intarsia crochet, a method of colorwork that involves bobbins for each section of color to avoid any floats.

Before you begin crocheting, you will want to create bobbins of each color weighing 9 g each;

  • Main Color (MC): 18 bobbins
  • Calla Lily (CA): 14 bobbins
  • Hydrangea (CB): 7 bobbins

Changing Colours: When you reach a stitch that calls for a new color, drop the old color before working the last yarn over (do not close the old stitch with the old colour), drop the old colour and pick up the new color to close the stitch by working the final yarn over and pull through both loops on hook with this new colour. Then continue working with the new colour.
