About

The Seashore Tank is a sleeveless crochet top featuring a modest scoop-neck, thick straps, and a lacy shell-stitch back panel. It’s a delicate, boho top – perfect for beach days. This is an easy pattern to follow with very basic shaping around the neckline, and no shaping at all on the back panel. The solid front panel actually extends a little ways into the back, in order to be able to have a simple, shapeless, rectangular back piece. This is a really basic top that you can style with pieces in your closet that you already own. You can customize it by making it longer to be a beach cover up, or using a contrasting colour for the back lace panel to add some visual interest. You can also partially seam up the sides to create side-slits at the bottom hem to allow for a better fit, especially on wider hips.

I wanted to create a top that had a really open back panel that exposed most of your back while you wear it. It’s a sexy piece if you can wear it without any bra straps showing.

Styling tip: To wear this top with the open back panel without any bra straps showing, try wearing it with a sticky bra, pasties, or a bra with a bandeau over top for optimal support.

Construction

This top is worked in 2 panels that get seamed together. The front panel is just basic stitches and very simple shaping around the neckline. You just need to know how to work 2 sts together – it’s very easy! The back panel is also comprised of simple stitches: just dc + ch. These two stitches work together to create a really beautiful shell stitch design that brings such a delicate vibe to this top. If you can double crochet, you can make this top – I promise!

Fit: This top is meant to be worn with anywhere from 1″ of negative ease to 3″ of positive ease depending on the size you’re making. If you’re between sizes, you can size up or down depending on your desired fit.

Shown here, I’m wearing the size small with 1″ of negative ease. (I have a 34″ bust, the top has a 33″ bust circumference)

Yarn

The Seashore Tank uses Curio Thread #3 from WeCrochet in the colourway Tea Rose. Alternate colourway (brown): Hawk.

This was my first time using this yarn, and it was not what I expected! It is a 100% mercerized cotton, and if you don’t know what that means, it means that a plant fiber yarn has been chemically processed to become more durable, prevent shrinking when washed, create a really beautiful sheen, and prevent the colour from bleeding. Mercerized yarns hold dye better, meaning they allow for a more rich colour than non-mercerized yarns. Mercerized yarns also have a lot more structure to them, and less drape. Because of this, I made sure to use double crochets throughout my top to keep it loose and flowy to offset the fact that it’s “stiffer” than non-mercerized yarns.

Ok – lesson over.

This yarn is great because it’s not fuzzy. I say this all the time in my posts, so you’ve probably heard me say it before. I love yarns that are smooth, and this one is definitely smooth. It’s also got a really faint sheen to it, which I love.

Let’s talk yardage –

You’ll need just 2 (2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5) balls of Curio Thread #3 to make this top for sizes XS (XS, S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X)! (Super affordable no matter what size you’re making!)

I am just interested in buying this pattern, is there any way that I can buy it without purchasing the whole bundle?

They will be available as individual downloads sometime in September but for now the e-book is the only way to access them! Sorry about that!
