Gauge
Gauge measurements use the worsted weight yarn and smaller hook.
4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) = approximately 15.5 sc and 15 rows, worked in the round, blocked.
For Swatch
Work first 8 rnds of Crown, creating a small circle. First 8 rnds of circle should measure approximately 4” (10 cm) in diameter. Once you match gauge, you can continue using this swatch to crochet the rest of your hat.
Finished Measurements
A—Diameter of Crown: 7.25” (18 cm)
B—Circumference: 21.75” (55 cm)
C—Length of Hat Sides Before Faux Fur: 4.5” (11 cm)
D—Total Length of Hat Sides, Including Faux Fur: 9” (23 cm)

3rd Loop: Every hdc stitch has three loops into which you can insert your hook on the next row/round: There are the “top 2 loops” like most regular stitches, and there is also a “back loop”. The back loop is referred to as the 3rd loop, and it will be the loop that is farthest away from you while you are crocheting. You will be instructed to work into the 3rd loop when you begin your Hat Sides.
Pattern Notes
Skill Level: Easy
Sizing: This hat is written in in one size to fit the average adult woman’s head with a circumference of approximately 21-23” (53-59 cm).
Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each row/round. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous row/round.
Right Side/Wrong Side: The right side (RS) will always be facing you as you crochet this hat.
Construction: This hat is crocheted seamlessly from the top down in a spiral. You will begin with the crown, increasing until reaching the proper circumference. Then, you will work straight with a few increases to form the hat sides, transitioning from your original yarn to your faux fur yarn. The faux fur section of the hat gets folded up.
Blocking
In the sample shown, the hat was blocked before adding the faux fur trim. You are welcome to block your hat after completing it, but I found it was a bit easier to do it at this point. Just make sure you don’t skip blocking your hat because it is crucial to getting the neat, flat crown!
Block your hat with the crown lying flat on your blocking mat. Using several T-pins, secure your hat by placing pins around the circumference of the hat, approximately one pin every few inches/cm. Spray the inside with water, then use your hands to flatten the fabric as best as you can. I placed a few heavy jars inside to help keep its shape, then removed them several hours later and left the hat to dry.
At this point, your hat should feel a bit like a sturdy basket, nice and structured.
