Bloom Bralette – The Perfect Size-Inclusive Crochet Bralette (that can be worn with a bra!)

Hi everyone!

Today I’m sharing a brand new bralette pattern called the Bloom Bralette that is made with my very own hand-dyed yarn (although you may use any fingering weight yarn that you like)!

Before we begin, here are some quick links for you:

About

I actually designed this pattern last year and finally it is ready to be released!

This pattern is made for YOU. I asked you in the summer of 2021 what you thought was lacking in terms of crochet bralettes, and you said plus size bralettes, and bralettes that can be worn with a bra! I heard ya loud and clear and I designed the Bloom Bralette: a size-inclusive bralette that can be worn with a bra. Oh, and it’s super customizable in terms of everything from ease to length to strap width. It’s everything you want, and more.

The Bloom bralette is made with a Knits ‘N Knots Fingering Weight yarn from my BLOOM collection in the colourway Hydrangea. You can read more about my hand-dyeing yarn journey here! In the beginning of 2021, I renovated my basement into a dye studio and this is my first true collection with my own yarn! I intended on releasing this pattern in 2021, but I was a little too busy with the book to execute it exactly as I had hoped. Better late than never, right?!

This pattern has truly all the information you’ll ever need to create a beautiful top. There are helpful links, there is a whole page of customization tips, there are imperial and metric units, there is a detailed schematic and chart, there are instructions to make this bralette in any yarn weight, and there are also instructions on how to make it in another yarn weight, if preferred. This design is different from a lot of crochet bralettes, in that you aren’t creating “cups”, but more-so working side-to-side to crochet a short tank top. The tight ribbing allows for plenty of stretch, mimicking the effect of bust-darts by stretching across the bust and tightening at the rib-cage for a fitted bralette on all body types. If bralettes aren’t your thing, simply add length and make a tank top instead. This pattern can be suited to your exact personal style! Please make sure to scroll down to see all of my lovely testers.. they seriously blew me away with their photos and I am so happy with how well it seems to fit every body type!

Materials

Yarn: Fingering—Knits ‘N Knots Fingering in Hydrangea

  • 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon
  • 435 yds (397 m) per 3.5-oz (100 g) hank
  • Find this yarn on knitsnknots.shop

Substitute Knits ‘N Knots Fingering with any similar fingering weight yarn that matches gauge.

Yardage: 1 (1, 2, 2, 2) (2, 2, 2, 2) hank(s), or

  • 375 (400, 440, 500, 545) (595, 655, 740, 800) yds
  • 343 (366, 403, 458, 499) (545, 599, 677, 732) m

To make this top using another yarn weight, see Modification Suggestions on Page 8 of the pattern PDF.

Hook: Size U.S. F/5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Tapestry needle, 1 locking stitch marker

Construction

This top is worked in one long piece that gets seamed together lengthwise to create a tube. First, you will work the front side of your top which integrates the straps, and then you will work a long straight piece that will become the back. Working them in this order allows you to adjust the width of the back piece and experiment with your amount of desired ease without having to worry about creating a symmetrical top like you would if you started in the center-back. This top is worked sideways to create a stretchy, vertical ribbing that will fit your curves nicely.
