Today I’m coming at ya with a new pattern, the Alexander Beanie, using Lion Brand Jeans Yarn. Click here to go straight to the pattern or keep reading for more info + pattern discount code!
Construction
This hat is constructed bottom-up and in the round. After casting on, you will knit the ribbing, then knit the body of the hat, and then after a few simple decreases, you’re done! Then the brim of the hat is folded up to create the double brim. If you knot how to knit and purl, you can make this hat! You can make it your own by adding a few extra rows to make it slouchy, play around with colour combos, or add a pom pom if you prefer! There’s so much you can do with this hat once you get the base down pat. Have fun with it 🙂
Yarn
Have you tried Lion Brand Jeans Yarn before? If you haven’t heard of this yarn, it’s a newer yarn from Lion Brand Yarn made of 100% acrylic and it’s so soft. Like, surprisingly soft. It’s now one of my all-time-fave acrylic yarns. I love the weight of it, it’s much lighter than other #4 acrylic yarns I have used! I found this yarn at my local Michael’s while I was shopping for something else and I got so excited because I didn’t realize they sold this in Canada! There are 7 denim-inspired colours available ranging from blues to greys (and one camel-coloured rust-brown shade called “topstitch” that I reeeally love).
I wanted to create a simple, 1-colour hat with this yarn because it’s just so dang pretty. It’s got a beautiful heathered look, and I really wanted to give the yarn the spotlight. For this hat, I used “Vintage”, which is a medium grey.
