7 Blankets to Crochet this Fall | Cozy Fall Crochet Patterns

Hi everyone!

Cozy season is upon us (finally!) and I wanted to share some cozy crocheted blanket patterns with you, all in one convenient blog post. Each pattern will have a couple of photos, as well as the purchase links to Etsy, Ravelry, my website, and the Lion Brand kits (all shown in Canadian dollars – if you’re American, they’ll be even cheaper). All kits are on sale this weekend, so I also included the price in case that factors into your project-planning! Happy crocheting friends!

1. Houndstooth Baby Blanket

If you’ve followed me for a while, you may have noticed that I love using the griddle stitch (also called lemon peel stitch or moss stitch) in my designs.. such as the Chainette Turtleneck, my Rosebud Raglan, Rosebud Cardigan, Rosebud Poncho, Lancaster Purse, Houndstooth Coatigan, yes, I really love this stitch! In this pattern, there is a twist – you’ll be alternating two different colors to create the houndstooth effect. It’s the perfect stitch for a blanket because it creates a really gorgeous texture without requiring a ton of focus. You can definitely Netflix and stitch with this one!

Yarn Choice: This blanket is made of an anti-pilling acrylic (perfect material for throwing it in the washer + dryer!) called Basic Stitch from Lion Brand. Any worsted weight acrylic will work!

Want to dip your toes in some colorwork? I’ll even show you exactly how to do it! Watch the YouTube tutorial below.

2. Zig Zag Chevron

Let’s throw it back to 2019! This design was one of the first times ever where I actually sat down to crochet with the intention of writing up the pattern! Turns out it is still a fan favorite today, thanks to the classic look and widely available yarn choice. I used Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand – another perfect yarn for throwing in the washer + dryer!

Everyone can use a crocheted chevron blanket in their home if you ask me!

3. MCM Throw

She’s the pattern that took over all of my 2022 designs. The blanket I can’t seem to beat in terms of pattern sales and blog views – the MCM Throw is one of my top 5 designs of all time. Nothing can outshine her! This blanket is crocheted in 3 strips, each consisting of 3 squares. At the end, you will seam the strips together and crochet a quick and easy border! I used Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand – another perfect yarn for throwing in the washer + dryer!

Psst, knitters: I’m in the process of creating a knit version right now which should be released at the end of 2023 using Pound of Love from Lion Brand.

  • Grab the Lion Brand Crochet Kit here – you get to choose your own colorways! Stick with the orange for a classic mid-century look, pick a color that matches your home, or simply choose one that speaks to you!

4. Wonder Block Baby Blanket

This blanket is SO satisfying to crochet! You’ll begin with a square, and each new block added will create longer and larger rectangles. This is a technique often used in quilting, called the Log Cabin technique. When applied to crochet, it creates a really cool look! Continue the block repeats until the pattern indicates, or until your desired blanket size. I used Color Theory from Lion Brand, another washable + dryable yarn!

5. Bannatyne Blanket

Let’s be honest.. We’ve all got a stash of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick just waiting for that perfect project. The Bannatyne Blanket is a suuper chunky throw with a delicious texture that will keep you warm all winter long.

6. Flower Market

My first pattern with granny squares, the Flower Market baby blanket requires no seaming at all – you’ll instead join using a join-as-you-go method which allows you to crochet each square together rather than seaming with a needle! I’ve included loads of photos and diagrams to help you along, and even linked to a video tutorial just in case you need that extra help! This project is unique in that it uses a main background colour (shown as the cream) with a self-striping yarn to create the flowers. You will cut each colorway at its transition point to give you multiple colors to create your flowers! If you’re looking for a colorwork challenge, or even a project you can create on-the-go (since you work each square individually!), you’ve got to try out this blanket for yourself!

7. Whatever Blanket (Called “Shapes Baby Throw” on the Lion Brand website)

This 90’s inspired blanket uses A Star is Born: Naptime Yarn from Lion Brand. It’s a super soft chenille yarn (polyester) designed for baby projects, although you can use this yarn for whatever you want! In this pattern you’ll find the griddle stitch (yes, again!) and multi-colored thick shapes applied to your fabric. This is about as mindless of a project as you can get – the entire blanket can be crocheted without referencing the pattern, then you’ll just need to work the border and the shapes at the end!
