The Peguis Cardigan – Crochet Pattern for Lightweight, Short Sleeve Summer Cardigan

Hi everyone!

I’ve got a new crocheted cardigan pattern that I can’t wait to show you! It’s called the Peguis Cardigan (pronounced peg-wiss). This cardigan uses single crochet and half-double crochet stitches and is so fun to make!

Before we begin, here are some quick links for you:

About

Something special about this cardigan is its construction. I don’t know about you – but I am not a fan of side seams if they’re not necessary. Sometimes they’re helpful and add structure, but I wanted this piece to be light and flow-y and drape-y. This cardigan starts with the bottom ribbing, and then the body of the cardigan is built onto that. It is crocheted flat, back and forth, until the split into 3 sections for the back panel and the two front panels. The cardigan is then folded over and seemed at the shoulder to create a space for arm holes.

Yarn

It’s also made with one of my favourite summer yarns: Lion Brand 24-7 Cotton. Of course, you can use any yarn you like; however, this cotton gives this piece a really nice texture and drape since it’s quite a dense yarn. It’s heavy enough to drape beautifully and swing playfully as you move. It’s mercerized, which means it’s treated to give it sheen and durability.. so you can just throw it in the wash and not worry about it! This yarn has so many great qualities BUT my favourite part about this yarn compared to other cottons I’ve used is this: it’s a chainette style yarn, which means that the way the yarn is wound is more like a chain opposed to a couple strands of yarn that are twisted into a spiral. It does not unwind! To read more about this yarn for yourself, you can click here.

Peguis Cardigan made in size medium in colour “Ecru”

If you’d like to pick up the same yarn that I used for this project, you can purchase right here! You’ll need 5 balls for the size XS and S, 6 balls for the M and L, 7 balls for the XL and 8 balls for the 2XL.

Once you’ve chosen your yarn, all you’ll need is a 5.5mm hook and a 4.0mm hook!

Okay enough about the yarn.. how about the pattern already?!
